Vincent C. Johnson, 71, of Shell Lake died Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake. He was born January 23, 1940 in Shell Lake, WI to Oscar and Marie (Miller) Johnson. Vince graduated from Shell Lake High School and moved to Alaska to work on the pipeline during 1972 to 1974. He then returned to the area and operated his own railroad salvage and welding business.
He is survived by 2 sisters, Hilda (Albert) Somerfeld of Spooner and Ida Astrid Johnson of Chippewa Falls; 1 brother, John Marvin Johnson of North Pole, AK and many nieces and nephews. Vince was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Iver, Rueben and Louis Melvin Johnson, 1 nephew, Steven Johnson and his life partner, Janice.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Skinner Funeral Home, Shell Lake, WI with Rev. Carol Ann McArdell officiating. A lunch will be served immediately following the service at the Salem Lutheran Church, Shell Lake, WI. Burial will be in Clam River Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Dale Johnson, Duane Johnson, Dennis Somerfeld, Daniel Somerfeld, Randy Brown and Cheri Johnson. Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday at the Skinner Funeral Home, Shell Lake and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
