U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the University of Louisville Law School Kentucky, in 1896, was admitted to the bar and was a lawyer in private practice. He was a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives, (1898-99). During the Spanish–American War, he served as a Captain in command of Company H, 8th Regiment, U.S. Army Volunteer Infantry. After the war, he resumed the practice of law and was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-sixth Congress and to the next succeeding Congress, serving (1919-23). Not a candidate for re-nomination, he practiced law until his death at age 60.
