Charles E. Hampton, 92, Bernice, Okla., died on Monday, Aug. 14, 2006, at Grove Hospital, Grove, Okla., following a short illness.
Mr. Hampton was born June 11, 1914, in Oronogo, Mo., and was a lifelong area resident. He worked at Rocketdyne and Teledyne in Neosho, Mo., as a senior heat treater and retired in 1978. He was a former member of the Elks Club in Joplin, an avid fisherman and loved his time living at the lake. He was a Baptist.
Charles married Edith Lavon Russell and she preceded him in death on Dec. 24, 1991.
He is survived by a daughter, Sondra Holloway and husband, Elmer, Goodman, Mo.; five grandchildren, Vikki Shipman and Steve Holloway, both of Bernice, Jim Holloway, Neosho, and Leesa Holloway and Matthew Holloway, both of Goodman; and nine great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by four brothers, Allen, Bob, Bill and Don Hampton; and a sister, Pearl Wilson.
Graveside services will be Thursday, Aug. 17, at 1 p.m. at Neosho Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the casket will be closed at all times.
