Lena Allen Fleener, daughter of James Nathaniel Allen and Ophelia Conn Allen, came to Villa Grove from Kentucky in the early 1900's with her parents and many siblings. In 1920 she married Arthur Fleener and had seven children: Lewis Bradley Fleener, Arthur Jr., Anna Gertrude Fleener Koss, Virginia Fleener Dison Polk, Ruth Fleener Pringle, Betty Fleener Hance, and Janet Fleener Payne Rhodes. They also had 28 surviving grandchildren who adored them, and numerous great-grandchildren and many descendants. Mrs. Fleener was a member of the First Christian Church of Villa Grove, the VFW Auxiliary, and many other organizations. Mrs. Fleener was well known for her outstanding skills in checkers, Chinese checkers, and making pastries.
