She was born on May 20, 1920 in Blackfoot, Idaho to John Chauncey and Emily Marie Heaton. Elma married Maurice John Denning Dec. 25, 1942 in Gaffney, South Carolina. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1971.
Educated in Idaho, Elma graduated from Firth High School. She went on to graduate from Ricks College with a teaching degree before briefly attending Brigham Young University.
Elma taught school in Idaho for two years before moving to Washington D.C. in 1942 to work for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. After her marriage, she lived in New York City where she worked for Gibbs and Cox, Naval Architects. She returned to Idaho in 1945, taught school for one more year and then moved to Utah where she worked at Hill Air Force Base, retiring in 1982.
Elma is survived by her children Linda Mousley, Denver, CO; Ann (Doug) McDonald, Honeyville, UT; Edward (Kathy) Denning and Scott Denning, Washington Terrace, UT; and Mark (Tami) Denning, Layton UT; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leon Heaton, Arvada, CO and one sister, Vaunda Brower, Grand Junction, CO.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 13, 2011, at 12:00 noon, at Myers Roy Mortuary 5865 South 1900 West, Roy, Utah. Friends and family may call on Friday from 10:00 – 11:40 a.m., prior to services.
Interment in the Washington Heights Memorial Park.
