Jerry Bertram Coppins, age 70 of Snow Creek passed away March 10, 2011.
He was born in Ogdensburg, NY on May 8, 1940 to the late Bertrand R. and Lillian Beauvais Coppins. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Timothy G. Coppins; sister, Marlene Agnes Coppins.
Jerry graduated from St. Marys Academy in Ogdensburg in 1957. He joined the Navy in August and retired after 20 years as Master Chief Petty Officer. His career encompassed the Cuban Missile Crisis and three West Pac Cruises aboard the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam Conflict. During the seventies he served on the USS Tarawa and was a plank owner. He retired from the Navy in 1977.
For seventeen years he worked in California in the floral industry for his brother Tim.
He and his wife retired to Snow Creek in 1994 where Jerrys hobbies included golfing, motorcycling and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Nancy Perdue Coppins; sons, Philip Coppins (Teresa) of Snow Creek, VA, Mark Coppins (Darla) of Harlingen, TX; daughter, Sharon Wild (Frank) of Apple Valley, CA; grandchildren, Joshua, Kaitlin, Ashley, Emily, Parker and Robbie; two great-grandchildren, Heather and Raegan; sister, Barbara Coppins of Longmont, CO; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
