Her obituary from a Madison paper says, "Mrs. Hanneman was the mother of eight children of whom six are still living, and with their aged father mourn the loss of this good woman who cared for them thru weary years of shadow and sunshine."
Mary died suddenly at her home as the result of heart trouble and the infirmities of old age. Her body laid in state at the Hanneman homestead until her funeral January 10, 1925 at Lake Madison Lutheran Church. During that time a traditional German wake was held.
Among the guests at the funeral were Emil Hannamann of Blue Earth, MN, a nephew of August, and Mary's brother, Herman, of Chicago.
