Born August 2, 1920 in Burlington, he was the son of Rudolph and Helen Russell Bliesener. On June 13, 1942 he married Barbara Anita Pohren in Kahoka, Missouri.
Mr. Bliesener was a graduate of Burlington High School. He was an Army veteran serving with the 714th Engineering Battalion maintaining the railroad between Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska during World War II.
Mr. Bliesener first worked in sheet metal at K& D Company and later in maintenance for Klein Hospital. He retired in 1985 from Burlington Medical center where he was a maintenance and grounds supervisor for 24 years.
He was a member of First United Church of Christ, Moose Lodge and American Legion. He loved to fix old cars and sell them, help people with projects, pheasant and mushroom hunting.
Survivors include his wife of almost 69 years of marriage, Barbara Bliesener of Burlington; two daughters, Linda K. (Dennis) Smith of Walcott and Robin Miller of Mount Pleasant; four granddaughters, Amber Smith of Iowa City, Jessica (Brian) Weckerly of Orlando, Florida, Rachel K. (Woodrow) Hoffman of Montana and Keli R. (Marc) Timmins of England; four great granddaughters, Ravyn and Kearney Hoffman and Helen and Lillian Weckerly; one step great grandson, Riley Hoffman and one sister, Dorothy Bliesener of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ron.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, May 15th, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m.
Memorials have been established for Special Needs Foundation and Great River Hospice.
According to Mr. Bliesener's wishes cremation will be accorded following the visitation.
