A Medevac was requested, arriving at the LZ (Landing Zone) it was also taken under fire wounding one of the crew and forcing the helicopter to make an emergency landing. A reaction squad was sent to reinforce the Marines; the delay in the evacuating resulted in the death of PFC Cacciottolo.
