Charles E Barnes, aged 73, died Monday night at his home in Church St., after a lingering illness. Mr. Barnes was born in Lake Odessa, Michigan, April 14, 1883, the son of Oren and Carrie Barnes. He had spent most of his life in this area where he was a carpenter by trade. He was employed by Mexico and Coal Company, prior to his retirement due to ill helath. He was a member of the Mexico Methodist Church and a retired member of the Mexico Fire Dept.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ella Chapman Barnes; one son, Robert C. Barnes, Mexico; 6 daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Mae) Gibbs, Mexico; Mrs. Ronald (Ethel) Shue of Lyons Falls; Mrs. Wesley (Edith) Wilton and Mrs. Rex (Marie) McNett of Lacona; Mrs. Leon (Velma) Greenwood, Pulaski; Mrs. Carl (Alberta) Snyder of Vestal; 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the Karl W. Gibbs Funeral Home, Main St., at 2 PM Thursday with the Rev. Robert E. Pennock, Pastor of Mexico Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Mexico Village Cemetery.
