Richard H. Bristow, 60, led Humane Association

Former Delaware Humane Association president, Richard H. Bristow died Sunday of cancer in Christiana Hospital, where he was a patient. He was 60.
Mr. Bristow, of 2311 Pine Ave., The Cedars, was a breeder and exhibitor of Irish Setters. He was active with the Delaware Valley Irish Setter Club and the Irish Setter Club of America.
His wife, Jean, said Mr. Bristow had a lifelong interest in animals and for many years the couple found homes for Irish Setters that had come into the possession of the Delaware Humane Association and the Delaware Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
He was an optician for Drs. John and Emily Nicoll at their practice on Limestone Rd. for 19 years. Before that he was a draftsman for Haveg Welding Processes Co. and New Castle County Engineering Department. He was also manager of the sewer service at the New Castle County Engineers Building.
Mr. Bristow, an Eagle Scout, was active in the Boy Scouts of America for 20 years. He was a scoutmaster of Troop 53, which met at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church and received merit and arrowhead honors. He was assistant district commissioner of the Boy Scouts; a Merit Badge counselor at Camp Rodney and a Camporee staff member.
He was a member, secretary and past president of the Delaware Society of Opticians. He was also a member of the Delaware Pistol Club, Delaware Rifle Club and the National Rifle Association.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Bristow was a graduate of Conrad High School. He served in the National Guard for 10 years.

Services will be at 11 A.M. Thursday in Grace Lutheran Church, Hockessin, where friends may call after 10. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Du Pont Road and Lancaster Ave.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Delaware Humane Society or the American Cancer Society
