Well, to begin with, Dusty belonged to my father-in-law, Chuck. I remember the day he brought Dusty home. My mom-in-law was not looking for another dog. She just lost their sheltie, Tippy, a few months before. He was the cutest little blonde, curly furball! I swear, he had springs in his feet! That dog could jump so high. If he felt like looking out of the window, he would spring up, with his tongue hanging out, and he kept bouncing until he saw whatever he was looking for.
How such a small dog could have so much energy, I never did figure that out. I just know he was so funny. The family would all just sit in amazement at his wild behavior and laugh and laugh. He brought a lot of laughter to that house.
What was even more funny was when it was BATH TIME! Giving him a bath wasn't really the problem. He didn't enjoy it but he would tolerate it. The problem was after. His hair on his back end! It looked like he had gotten a bad perm, it was curly and frizzy, but soft. It was so soft. You could tell he was embarrassed. He would run outside or on the carpet and roll and roll trying to get the smell of the soap and clean feeling off and maybe even to flatten that hair!
His favorite game was tug-of-war. He liked to chase toys, too. That dog could run for hours outside. He actually jumped so high once, he hopped over their 4' fence. I pretty much grew up in their house, so I had to help chase him. My hubby is my best-friend's brother. So that's how we met ~ just a tidbit of information...
Anyway, their family ended up moving in 1997 out to the country. Dusty just loved that huge yard. The fence went all around the entire house. So basically he had an acre or two to run and chase whatever moved.
Well, in October of 2006, my father-in-law, Chuck, passed away. Dusty missed him a lot. The way I see it, as of today May 12, 2011, around 3:15 pm, Dusty and his master are together again, enjoying a very special reunion. I can just see Dusty springing into Chuck's arms and licking him the way he used to.
May they both be happy together, until we all meet again...
We'll miss you, Dust...
