LUXEMBURG NEWS, Friday, May 24, 1918: Aged Woman Dies - Mrs. Caroline Hafemann, Former Resident of Town Dies At Oshkosh - Moved To Oshkosh 23 Years Ago - Funeral Held From Home of Aug. Sell In Village Wednesday Afternoon
Mrs. Caroline Hafemann, an aged resident of Oshkosh succumbed at her home at that place on Monday morning at five o'clock, death being caused by a stroke of paralysis, which she had suffered from for several weeks.
Mrs. Hafemann, nee Caroline Borgman was born at Statien, Germany on April 6, 1841, being at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 14 days at the time of her death. She continued to reside in Germany until after her marriage to Wm. Hafemann later coming to the United States, taking up their residence in the town of Luxemburg. She resided until 23 years ago, when she took up her residence at Oshkosh where she has since resided. Wm. Hafemann, her husband having preceded her in death.
Deceased is survived by three sons, Albert of Forestville, Wm. F. of the village, and Gus of Oshkosh and four daughters, Mrs. Aug. (Anna) Sell of Luxemburg village, Mrs. Herman (Lydia) Lohrey of Luxemburg town, Mrs. Chas. (Minnie) Gustavus of Oshkosh and Mrs. Chas. (Bertha) Koehn of Oshkosh and one sister, Mrs. John Klear of Oshkosh, and two brothers, Aug. and Chas. of Oshkosh. Twenty-four grand children and four great grand children also survive.
The funeral services were held at 12:30 o'clock at the Bowen Street Lutheran church, Rev. H. Erck officiating. The remains were sent here for burial and arrived here Tuesday afternoon and taken to the home of August Sell where the remains rested until Wednesday afternoon at one o'clock when the funeral was held from the home. The body was laid at rest in St. John's Lutheran cemetery in the town, Rev. H. A. Handrich officiating.
The pallbearers were ALbert Schlei, Wm. Quade, Ferdinand Dorn, Wm. Sell, Fred Meintz and Frank Mierier.
All the children were present at the funeral.
