Cyrus Allen, s. of Capt. Daniel Allen, Jr. and his 1st wife Mary Sumner, b. Oct. 14, 1771 of record at Ashford, Conn. He d. as a pensioned Rev. War soldier Mar. 28, 1851 at Troy, VT.

Cyrus' 51-page Rev. War pension file provides considerable detail regarding the place of his origin and his life prior to and after marriage. In 1782 at age 10, he served as a waiter to his father who was commanding a company principally stationed at Stamford, Conn. Included is a photocopy of a fragile handwritten letter from his father to Cyrus' mother from "Garison near Stamford, July 20, 1782" in which "I have the pleasure of informing you I am well. Cyrus is well and makes a harty soldier. he has been on guard twice. he says he can eat twice as much as when he lived at home."

Because of Cyrus' claimed age at service, numerous affadavit's were required to verify his service. One in Feb. 1834 was by Eber Robinson of Holland, VT, then 74 years old formerly of Windham, Conn., s. of Lieut. Jacob,5 Robinson [Peter,4 Peter,3 Isaac,2 Rev. John,1]. In 1782 Eber served as an Ensign under the command of Cyrus' father. Eber's affadavit includes the following statement:

• I know that Cyrus Allen a son of Capt. Allen served that year as a waiter to his Father and although he was not required to stand on guard or go out on scouting parties he would frequently from choice perform that service and although he was a youth of about twelve years of age..and on one instance as we were going out on a scouting party..I said to him 'Cyrus you had better not go for they will kill you, he replyed I am so small that they will not be half so likely to kill me as they are to kill you.'
