Services for William Benjamin Munson III, a third-generation member of the pioneer Munson family of Denison, Grayson County, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Denison.

Mr. Munson died Friday in a Monroe, La., hospital after a long illness. He was 73.

Mr. Munson was born and raised in Denison. He attended Davidson College in North Carolina, the University of Texas at Austin and studied textile engineering at Georgia Tech University.

Mr. Munson was head of the Denison Cotton Mill from 1937 until its sale in 1977. He was chairman of the board of Citizen's National Bank, now Texas American Bank, in Denison, officer and director of Munson Realty, Nueces Land and Livestock Company, Capital Southwest Corporation and the Texas Manufacturers Association. Mr. Munson was president of the Texas Cotton Manufacturers Association, Denison Chamber of Commerce, Denison School Board, Rotary Club and the Denison Charter Commission. He was a member of the Denison City Council and director of the W.B. Munson Fund, which is the major benefactor for the Texoma Medical Center in Denison.

Mr. Munson was on the board of regents of Austin College in Sherman, Grayson County. In 1981 he was named by Gov. Bill Clements to the board of regents of East Texas State University, Commerce, Hunt County.

Mr. Munson is survived by two daughters, Mary Martha Black of Houston and Regina Hughes of Boston, Mass.; five sons, Mayor William Benjamin Munson IV, John Munson, both of Denison, Peter Munson of Sherman, Richard Munson of Houston and Felix Munson of Temple, Bell County; a brother, David Munson of Dallas; a sister, Betsy Donaldson of El Paso; and 16 grandchildren.
