Born to Micajah Compton and Margaret "Peggy" Rexroat. Peggy was a common nickname given to women named Margaret.

Husband of Helen Martha Duck.
Father of; Adaleja or Adaljah (spelling???), Margaret Elizabeth, Lucy Ann, William Erastus Dorvin, Christopher Columbus, Sarah Ellen, Silas Monroe, Martha Dora "Mattie", Rhoda E (Rhodetta), and George W.

The best information I have is that John's headstone is located on the "Old family farm" in Faubush, Kentucky, but there's no information telling me where that is. This land had field stones at one time but was never fenced and has been plowed up and farmed and now the cows graze on this land, which is private property and the owners won't allow anyone to come digging around.

Following is from minutes:
Brother John Riley Compton was born 30 April 1825.

Professed faith in Christ at about 20 yrs of age and was baptized into the fellowship of the Hopeful church sometime after. Moved his Membership to the Mt. Pisgah Church and continued his membership with this church until his death, which occurred 2 November 1896. He was ordained a deacon and served the Church in this capacity very acceptably til his death. He was a consistent member and very useful brother. He was greatly afflicted for some years before he died, but bore his affliction with patience, and seemed only waiting for the summons to go up home. He was strong in faith and always rejoicing in hope. He is greatly missed by his church and friends and especially by the children at home: they deeply feel their loss. He lived up to his duty and died a true Christian, and has doubtless gone to where his soul on earth longed to be. We sympathize greatly with the bereaved children. Sister Helen Compton, wife of John Riley Compton, deceased, was born about the year 1830 and professed faith in Christ when about 20 yrs of age and was baptized into the fellowship of the Mt. Pisgah Church. She was an influential sister and a great worker, and greatly beloved by all. She would often plead with sinners to seek the Savior and pray with and instruct them. Her last hour on earth was spent singing the sweet songs of Zion. No doubt she sings more sweetly up yonder than she did while here below. The Church and children and all of us deeply feel the loss of such a noble sister, but our loss is her eternal gain.
