Francis A. Wheeler, 49,
Prominent as Musician in
Southern Colleges

Francis Allan Wheeler, 49, of West Hickory, died at the Titusville hospital at 6:55 o'clock Saturday evening from
heart trouble suffered for some time.
The body was prepared for interment at the E. L. Cummins funeral home and will be taken to the home in West Hickory today, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, with interment; in the Siggins private burial ground, at West Hickory.
The deceased was son of the late Frank A. and June ,E. Siggins Wheeler and was born at West Hickory February 25, 1888. Part of his boyhood was spent in Titusville where he attended school. He became an instructor in music and his adult life was spent in the South.He was a teacher in Centenary college in Shreveport, La., and also in the Birmingham, Ala., conservatory and Howard college in that city.
Failing in health he came north about three years ago and located in the town of his birth, West Hickory. He had occasionally visited in Titusville and sang before the Rotary Club about three years ago.
On September 5, 1913, Mr. Wheeler was married to Miss Hilda Burley of Wheeling, W. Va., who survives him with three children - Francis A. Wheeler, Jr. of Birmingham, Ala., Miss Jane Irving Wheeler and Kenneth Burley Wheeler at home.
During the World War Mr. Wheeler was appointed by Secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels to go to Haiti, West Indies, to make investigations for the government and he spent more than a year on the island, with headquarters at Port au Prince. He was member of the First Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala.
