He was born on May 30, 1913 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Eva Louise Purnell and Moroni
Heiner. He married Vera L. Thorup on November 25, 1936 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Dan
graduated from the LDS High School in 1931, the U of U in 1935 and attended Harvard
Business School in 1935-36. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was employed
by the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad for 41 years and held many positions in the
traffic department, retiring as district manager. He served on numerous civic boards and
committees of community service. He was a member of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce,
the Salt Lake Lions Club, and served as president of the Transportation Club. Dan was an
active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a two year
mission with his wife in the Liberty Stake Fourth Ward.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters and one son, Judith Heiner Thunell (Bruce)
Mendon, Utah; Joan Heiner Williams (Elgin) Salt Lake City, Utah; Daniel Thorup Heiner
(Anne) Anchorage, Alaska; seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn
Mortuary Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive, where friends and family may call 12:45-1:45
p.m. prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, family
suggests a donation of your choice.
