Minnie Ruth Young Rice, loving mother, grandmother, wife, former teacher and friend to everyone, was called to her eternal home on May 12th, 2011. Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband of 32 years, Andrew F. Rice. Ruth leaves behind two sons, Dr. A. Kent Rice of Houston, Steven A. Rice of St. Louis, daughters Andrea Rice of Mexico, Ruthann Cassidy and Bekky Rice of Houston.
Ruth had numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Born in Electra, Texas on March 17, 1926, Ruth attended Nacogdoches High School and Stephen F. Austin State University, where she obtained a Bachelors degree in Mathematics. She began her teaching career at the age of 18, in Diboll Texas. She met her husband through a blind date, and they moved to Houston, Texas, where Andrew F Rice practiced Chiropractic medicine for 30 years.
Ruth was an elementary school teacher for 38 years, loved teaching, and kept in touch with many of her students, even after she retired.
The pallbearers are Jeremy M. Brice, Clayton Lemmons, Andrew K. Rice, Regan K. Rice, Kris Black and Shaun Black. Visitation will be held Monday, May 16, 10:00am, and the service at 11:00am. at Klein Funeral Home, 9719 Wortham Blvd. in Houston, Texas. Burial services will follow at 1:00pm Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, at 6900 Lawndale Ave., Houston Texas.
