Homer, Ill., July 29.—George (Washington) Runkles, a well known farmer who resided west of Homer, died on Sunday night at the St. Elizabeth hospital in Danville after an illness of several days. Mr. Runkles had been in poor health for several years but kept on with his farm work until a short time ago when he found it necessary to go to the hospital for an operation. The findings of the surgeons were disappointing and Mr. Runkles never made any change for the better. He was born in Mercer county, Ohio, in January, 1844, and came to Illinois while yet a young man. He enlisted as a private in Co. A, 35th Ill. Inf., and after a year and eight months was discharged as a corporal. He was married three times to Miss Sarah Boise, Mrs. Mary E. Palmer and Mrs. Harriett Seggs, the latter of whom and one daughter, Mrs. Grace Place, of St. Joseph, survive Mr. Runkles. One daughter, Mrs. Charles Williams, died some years ago. The funeral will be held at the Runkles home on Tuesday at 2 p. m. Burial will be made at the G. A. R. cemetery at Homer. Service at the grave will be in charge of the local G. A. R. post of which Mr. Runkles was a member.
