George Waller Blow was born in New Rochelle, New York on June 1, 1897. He graduated from V.M.I. in 1917 with a B.S. in chemistry. From there he served as instructor of military tactics and mathematics at Culver Military Academy. He enlisted in the service and attended field artillery officers training school at Camp Zachary Taylor, Kentucky.
In 1921 he graduated from the Harvard School of Business Administration and went to work for his father at the Matthiessen Hegeler Zinc Company in LaSalle. Between his graduation and his employment he was a delegate to a meeting of the International Chambers of Commerce in London and spent time later in the summer doing reconstruction work in the devastated regions of France.
In 1929 he received a B.A. degree from the Columbia School of Architecture and briefly worked for the New York architectural firms of Huzhak & Hill. He then became a partner in the firm of DeVaulchier, Blow, and Wilmet, 103 Park Avenue, in New York City. During World War II he served in the United States Navy with the rank of Lt. Commander in the Navy Department, Washington, DC
He is buried with his wife and parents.
