Marvin L. Oimoen, age 83, of Madison, died on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at HospiceCare Inc. in Fitchburg, surrounded by his family.

He was born to Edwin and Gena (Nygaard) Oimoen on March 26, 1928, in Mount Horeb. He graduated from Mount Horeb High School where he was the captain of the Mount Horeb Football Team. Marvin was a United States Army veteran during the Korean War.

He was united in marriage to Margaret T. Synon on April 2, 1951, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Verona. They lived in Verona until 1962 when they moved to Madison. Margaret preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 2005.

Survivors include a son, Michael of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a daughter and her husband, Marianne and Phil Rowlands of Stoughton; beloved grandchildren, Sean and Caitlin Rowlands of Stoughton whom he dearly loved; his sister, Ruth Phillips of Columbia, S.C.; his in-laws, Bernice Hughes of Mount Horeb, Jeanne Folts of Champaign, Ill., and Benedict Neuhauser of Madison; and many nieces, nephews and friends, especially his Oscar Mayer longtime retirees and card playing friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and three brothers, Grant, Robert and Frederick.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2011, at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 4200 Mineral Point Road, Madison, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 a.m. with Monsignor Kenneth Fiedler officiating. Private family burial will be at St. Andrew's Catholic Church Cemetery in Verona with full military honors.
