Mangus L. Anderson, 91, Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, formerly of Altoona, died Wednesday evening at the home.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late John and Cecelia (Hoaglend) Anderson. He married Betty Meinhart, who preceded him in death.

Surviving are four children: Mangus L. Jr. and wife, JoAnn, of Spokane, Wash., Terry and wife, Lois, of Altoona, Barry and wife, Kathy, of Altoona and Peggy Boorman and husband, Dave, of Osterburg; 11 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Sheryl M. Chambers, on Jan. 4, 2006. He was the last of 12 children.

Mangus served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a technical sergeant at several duty stations throughout Europe from Jan. 18, 1943, until Oct. 22, 1945. During his working career, he was employed as a pipefitter for the Pennsylvania Railroad and Penn Central Railroad, then retired from Conrail in 1981.

Mangus enjoyed hunting and having nice cars. He was a craftsman of many skills.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com), where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Pastor Jerry Sneath officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
