GOSHEN -- Dorothy L. Bechtel, 77, of 1700 Lawndale Place, died in her home Wednesday (Feb. 12, 2003).
Mrs. Bechtel, the daughter of the late Ned and Mabel Lacey, was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., on June 13, 1925, graduated in 1944 from Goshen High School, attended Indiana University and graduated from Goshen College.
In June 1949, she married Dr. Kermit R. Bechtel in Goshen and he died July 10, 2000. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John (Elizabeth "Tish") Stump of Syracuse and Mrs. Brian (Margaret) Zentz of Goshen; one son, Dr. Mark (Ann) Bechtel of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A brother, William Lacey, is deceased.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, where the service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday. Pastor Alan L. Griffin with First Presbyterian Church will officiate, and burial will be at Yellow Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Bechtel taught elementary school for several years in the Goshen School System. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Goshen, the Tri Kappa Sorority and Philomathians, served as a den mother in Cub Scouts and worked with the Camp Fire Girls. She enjoyed reading and traveling, especially overseas.
Memorials maybe given to the church or Salvation Army.
