The son of Israel and Emma French, pioneers of Kentucky. He was the ninth of eleven children. He married Carrie Stoltz February 5, 1888. There were 8 children-seven to adult. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge for 40 years. He was a local fur buyer and also ran a butcher shop.
