She was the daughter of Lewis M. H. Washington of Macon, Ga., and Rebecca Landis of Pennsylvania, who came to Texas in 1833. After their marriage in Texas they settled at old Washgington, where Mr. Washington published a newspaper. He owned the table which was passed down to Mrs. Withers. Texas independence was declared March 2, 1835.
Mrs. Withers' parents moved later to Austin, where their four children were born. Mrs. Withers was the wife of John Carr Withers, who died in October 1927.
Surviving are two sons, H. K. [H.H.] Withers of Los Angeles, Cal., and Dan B. Withers, McAlister, Ok.; a daughter, Mrs. A.L. Pearson of 6128 Lindell Avenue; a sister, Mrs. A.L. Austin of Dallas; a grandson, Dan B. Withers, Jr. of McAlister, Ok., and a granddaugher, Mrs. C.J. Cobb of Oklahoma City. She was a cousin of Judge Kennesaw Landis of Chicago.
Mrs. Withers had been an active member of the East Dallas Christian Church for many years.
Furneral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Loudermilk-Sparkman Funeral Home. Dr. L.N.D. Wells, pastor of the East Dallas Christian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were J. Ed Brown, Ralph McBride, J.N, Mendenhall, Newt Flippen, C.V. Compton and Miller McCraw.
