Son of James Neville Brown and Martha McCoy Brown. Simeon was a large land owner and before the Civil War, owned about 300 slaves. Most of the slaves stayed on with him after their freedom was declared and many of their descendants still live near there. He gave the land on which the Brownwood Babtist Church now stands and helped to build the church that was burned down there several years ago. He also gave land to the freed slaves on which to build a church. He gave supplies to the Confederate Government during the Civil War.
