Compliments of Allegheny Cemetery
Henry Bascom Appleton, a brother of Harlan Appleton minister of the Pittsburgh Conference, died of consumption at the residence of his father-in-law, Mr. Robert Black, Congress Street, Pittsburgh Pa, in the 33rd year of his age. He dedicated all of his abilities to the Savior, in his twentieth year. From this period, the glory of God, and the interest of the Church were his constant aim. He did much for the Master as a leader of music, spending freely his means ,and his time. After two years of patiently suffering and waiting, he came to life's verge, and Oh what a close! The river of love in which he lived seemed to deepen and widen as he neared the ocean of eternity. A holy calm possessed him, not a murmur was heard; the sufferings of life seemed overlooked in the prospect of the glory beyond. He leaves a wife, and three children. May they all meet above! M. J. Montgomery.
Henry Bascom Appleton also called Harry. Died at the age of 33 of condition called: phrihiris pulmonalis - according to his death certificate. Family states died from breathing in nail dust (he was a type of blacksmith who made nails). Death secondary to consumption. Married to Margaret Bruce Black-Appleton-Jones. Also buried in same section.
