Ida Mae Coward Brown, 90, formerly of Oak Hill Road,Candler,died on Nov. 11,1997, at the Canton Health Care Center.
A native of Jackson County, she had resided in Buncombe County for 50 years prior to moving to the Haywood Rest home in January of 1996. She was a devoted and loving mother and caregiver, and a member of Deaverview Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School as long as her health permitted. She was a graduate of Sylva High School and Asheville Normal Teachers College.
She was the daughter of the late John Houston and Rhoda Cordelia Woods Coward.
Surviving are her husband, Ferrell G. Brown of the Haywood Rest Home in Waynesville; daughters, Patricia Whitaker of Winston-Salem, Susan Levi of West Chester, Ohio; sons, Ernest R. Brown of Asheville, Michael F. Brown of Arlington, Va., Sisters, Edith Cope of Kent, Washington, Katherine Gaddy and Janet Stevens both of Clyde; brother, Raymond Coward of Sedro Wooley, Washington; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Earl Moseley and James Paul officiating with burial at Pisgah View Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements were by Ander-Rice Funeral Home in Asheville.
