BERNICE R. COX

Mrs. Thomas J. Cox, whose home for many years was at 927 South Commercial St., died Sunday evening at the Flint Hills Manor Nursing Home. She was a lifetime resident of Lyon County and her late husband was a well-known Emporia contractor and builder.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3:30 P.M. in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett chapel with the Rev. Stafford S. Studer of the First Presbyterian Church in charge. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

The family has suggested memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church.

Bernice Rofena Hoch was born July 22, 1890, in Hartford, the daughter of John and Lomina Dumbauld Hoch. She married Thomas J. Cox in Emporia, Feb. 29, 1912, and he died March 23, 1965. Mrs. Cox was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Circle 2 of the United Presbyterian Women.

Mrs. Cox is survived by one son, John T. Cox, Corning, Calif.; two daughters, Ruth Oxelson and Mary Alyce Spears, Paradise, Calif.; one brother, R. L. Hoch, Yuba City, Calif.; and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One son, Walter C., died in infancy and another son, Runnels, died in 1963. She was preceded in death by two brothers, R. F. and V. A. Hoch.

Surviving relatives of Mrs. Cox who live in Emporia are one nephew, Orville J. Hoch, and two granddaughters, Chimone Cox and Carolyn Tatman.
