Larry Michael Hurt, 70, of Casey, IL passed away at 8:05 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Coles County, IL. He was born January 9, 1941 in Terre Haute, IN, the son of Earl O. Hurt and Ruth V. Dauwalder Hurt.

Survivors include his sister, Charlotte Royal and husband Tom of Charleston, IL; brother, Chris Hurt and wife Becky of West Lafayette, IN; nieces, Lisa Royal Ebel of Charleston, IL and Lori Royal Morton of Minooka, IL; nephews, Andrew Hurt, Jerrod Hurt, Nathan Hurt and Taylor Hurt, all of West Lafayette, IN; great nieces and nephews, Maggie and Drew Clancy of Charleston, IL and Josiah, Anna and Julia Morton of Minooka, IL; aunt, Jan Wallace of Wheaton, IL and uncle, Philip Hurt of Houston, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Larry was a 1958 graduate of Casey High School. He attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL and Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ.

Larry's profession was accounting. He was retired after previously working for the Casey National Bank, Casey, IL; ISGO Corporation in Chicago, IL; Kraft Foods in Champaign, IL and G.R. Grubb Advertising in Champaign, IL.

Larry had many interests, including spending time with family, classical music, art, reading, keeping up on current events and watching educational television programs. Larry was a great giver of gifts. He enjoyed choosing just the right gift for each of his family members, knowing just what they would appreciate. At Christmas and Birthdays, everyone knew which gifts Larry had given because of the special attention he had given to the beautiful wrapping and decorating of packages.

Larry had a long-time hobby of gardening, and loved flowers and plants. He enjoyed collecting, and over the years collected such things as owl trinkets, bells, and moustache mugs.

Larry was a very compassionate, caring and considerate man. He cared very much for his family and held each one of them in high regard. He enjoyed reminiscing with family, and could recall important details from long ago. He is loved and will be missed by many.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL. Burial will follow in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service on Thursday afternoon at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL.
