Giles was the son of John Lewis French and Elizabeth Rose Pike. He married Lillian Aurelia "Lillie" Compton.

RITES THIS AFTERNOON FOR GILES L. FRENCH
Funeral services will be held at Bailey this afternoon at 2 o'clock for Giles L. French, 55, Abbs Valley farmer who died in Bluefield sanitarium Friday morning, of blood poisoning.
Mr. French had been a patient at the local hospital for more than two weeks, the disease that culminated in his death having had resulted in a carbuncle on his head.
The last rites will be in charge of the Rev. W.D. Larrows, pastor of the Graham circuit of the Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. C.A. Wagner, and burial will follow in the Wagner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews of Mr. French, while his nieces will serve as flower bearers.
Mr. French is survived by his widow, who was formerly Miss Lillie Compton, and the following children: Mrs. Isaac Brooks, of Nemours; Edward and Kelly French, of Jenkin-Jones; Mack French, of Boissevain; Florence, Giles Jr., Sadie, George, Maurice and Jettie French, all of Abbs Valley.
Other survivors include three brothers and three sisters as follows: Alex, Rufus and Charles French, all of Bailey; Mrs. Charles Myers, of Belfry, Ky; Mrs. Joseph Davidson, of Bluefield, Va., and Mrs. Charles Lester, of Princeton.
