Andrew Jackson Sr. came to Kansas in 1862 and started a homestead just south of the Nebraska/Kansas state line, living in a dugout. He was one of the earlier homesteaders in Kansas. Andrew Sr. died from exposure in the "Schoolhouse Blizzard" of 1888 while gathering firewood and was buried directly west of there in the Sod Church Cemetery.
Andrew Sr.'s son, Andrew Jackson "Jack" Jr., took over the homestead, built a sod house and farmed there many years. His wife, Margaret Diefenbach, was born in Germany. Their oldest son, Noah, was of the third generation to live on the farm.
