The death of Peter Keese, the father of Police Justice Keese, has been mentioned in our columns. He was a member of the Society of Friends and was the grandson of one of the company of Friends who settled in Clinton county, New York, shortly after the Revolution. He was born near Keeseville, N. Y., on the 22d day of the fifth month in the year 1798 and died at the age of upwards of 77 years of an acute disease, when his family had reason, from his strong constitution, to expect him to live many years. That this was a reasonable expectation is shown by the following instances of longevity in his immediate family: His father, Richard Keese, died in 1821, at the age of sixty. His mother, Anna, in 1849, at eighty-seven. He had three brothers, Oliver, William and Richard. Oliver died in 1865 in his seventieth year, and William in August, 1875, when within a month of being eighty-nine. Richard still lives at the age of eighty. He is believed to be the last surviving member of the Twentieth Congress. Three sisters survive: Elizabeth Irish, Hannah Hurlbut, Gulielma Arnold, aged respectively 82, 75 and 73. Anna Keese, mentioned above, was sister of the father of Fitz Greene Hallock, the poet, who died at a very advanced age.
The funeral services of Peter Keese were held at his home in Saratoga on Tuesday, and his body is to be buried at Greenwood.
