A Minneapolis woman and her three-year-old nephew were killed this weekend when a bicycle they were riding was struck from the rear by a car.

Killed were Agnes Neft, 24, and Gerald Bahr, Shooks. The woman and boy were riding the bicycle west on Highway 1 when a car driven by Mikel P. Paltes, 20, New Munich, Minn., also traveling west, hit the bicycle from the rear.

A state trooper who investigated the accident, which occurred two miles west of Shooks at 7:20 p.m. Saturday, said the driver of the car "evidently just didn't see them." The trooper said Baltes told a Beltrami County sheriff's deputy at the scene that he had been blinded by the sun.

Neft was reported dead at the scene. The boy died Sunday at 3:45 a.m.

Ms. Neft was born on May 3, 1952 in Blackduck. She attended school in Kelliher and was a student in nursing at Hibbing Junior College and the University of Minnesota. At the time of her death, she was employed as a registered nurse at the University of Minnesota Hospital.

She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Neft, Northome, her grandmother, Mary Parochka, Blackduck; five brothers, Andrew, Blackduck; Joe, Northome; Lawrence, Northwood, N.D., and Al and Kenneth, Northome; five sisters, Kathryn Singer, Reynoldsburg, Ohio; Margaret Seitz, Tenstrike; Jane Foley, Foley; Ann Bahr, Minneapolis and Donna Neft, Anchorage, Alaska.
