Valerie was a member of the US Navy for 20 years and served as a registered nurse, instructor, editor and interpreter. She retired in 2008. She received her Bachelor's Degree, Master of Arts and French along with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from URI. She was a member of the DAV and the AARP.
Valerie is survived by one son, James P. Meade; one brother, Paul J. McNeil, her significant other, Terry N. Perdue, her aunt, Margaret M. Balassone and her stepson, Glynn E. Meade. She was the sister of the late Gloria H. Carlson.
Her funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 am in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick. Burial with military honors will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions to American Heart Assoc., 222 Richmond Street, Ste. 108, Providence, RI 02903 will be appreciated.
