Jennie Hill was born in Hardeman County, Tennessee, to parents James A. 'Jim' and Lucinda 'Parolee' Godwin Hill. She came to Comanche County, Texas, in 1878 with a wagon train of family and friends. She married Robert D. Meek and moved to Granbury where she died at the birth of her first child, Blanche Meek, who died later at age three. Of Jennie, we have left this stone, memories, and this essay which was probably schoolwork:

THE COUNTRY IN SUMMER

"Everything looks beautiful in the country in summer. The prairie is covered with green grass, and flowers, and blossoms of all kinds; and everything wears a smiling appearance. The fields are covered with the green corn, and peas.
What is it that is more beautiful than the scene of the country in summer? You can see the cows lying on the mossy banks, and hear the songs of birds, and see the beautiful lambs playing. Now in the springtime of life is our golden age, the morning of spring rejoices over our heads; we walk up and down in a new world. Summer wears a face of beauty, and we should all feel happy, to see everything looking so beautiful.
In summer you can have nice vegetables to eat of all kinds. We can gather flowers, and make nice bouquets, when if it was not for summer we could not."
