JACOB B. BABIN: Beloved - Son, Brother, Patriot & Friend was KILLED IN ACTION in Vietnam - Jake was only 21 years old.
Jake was a wonderful son, brother and friend. The day before he died, Jake made a statement to Larry, one of his buddies and said; "I don't think I'm going to make it"! Jake was right in his premonition. Jake served his country with fearless honor in the US Army, Company A - 504th MP Battalion - 18th Military Police Brigade based in Phu Bai - I Corps, South Vietnam.
Jake was instantly KILLED IN ACTION during an ambush by North Vietnamese Army (NVA) regulars during combat operations, north of Hue, near Dong Ha, South Vietnam on 26 March 1971. Military Police convoy escorts were conducted from Vietnam, into Cambodia and Laos - along the DMZ border of North Vietnam.

Jake was engaged to his sweetheart in Massachusetts. He voluntarily extended his combat tour of duty past the required one year. Jake was killed in action with only 11 days left to go!
Jake was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation. Jacob Benedict Babin is a true American Hero. He is an example of what a real man - a real patriot is! The word Hero is loosely used today - Jake was the real deal! He didn't flinch in the face of terrifying danger - he was a real American hero!

Jake always made a difference in the lives of those he met. He was a rare and wonderful human being - a true good guy. Even after all of these years, there is rarely a day that I don't think of him. Jake consistently put others before himself. I've tried all of my adult life since Nam to be half the man Jake was - he set the bar really high! It makes me so sad that Jake never had the chance to become a husband and father. He would have been a wonderful husband and daddy! Jake has a special place in heaven - forever young and 21.

I asked nothing from those who gave nothing, and accepted the thought of eternal loss should I fail. I have looked into the face of terror - and felt the stinging cold of fear. I have cried, pained and hoped but, most of all - I have lived times others say were best forgotten. But, at least someday I will be able to say that I was proud to be a soldier". Jake, thank you for giving more than the full measure - YOU GAVE ALL - for your friends - for your country. I am so sorry that you were killed, my brother! You are owed a debt that can never be repaid.
