George N. Cavis 76, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 in Port Huron Hospital.
He was born October 12, 1934 in Manari, Greece.
George came to the U.S. in 1951 and began working for his Uncle George at Unique Grill. He opened Cavis Grill in 1960 and it continues to this day. He was devoted to his faith in the Greek Orthodox Church. George was a lifetime member of the Masons-Pine Grove Lodge #11 in Port Huron. He was an avid billards player and was a Golden Gloves Boxer. He was devoted to his family, in Particular his two grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine; son, Dean of Rochester Hills; daughter, Mary (Tom) Perdikis of Unionville, Ontario, Canada, grandchildren, Georgios and Catherine; son, Nicholas (Maria) of Marysville; sister, Vasiliki Vavis of Port Huron; sister, Dimitra (George) Pappas of Chicago, Il; sister, Eleftheria (Christos) Kateyiannis of Lansing; many neices, newphews and cousins; all the devited employees throughout the yeard at Cavis Grill and his many cherished friends and customers whom he regarded as family.
He was preceded in death by this parents, Nicholas and Katerina.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Episcopal Church. Burial will folloe in Lakeside Cemetery.
Visiting hours are 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 & 6-9 p.m. Sunday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Masonic service will be at 8 p.m. Saturday and a Trisagion Service will be 7 p.m. Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in George's name may be made to the University of Michigan Cancer Center, Dr. Redman's Kidney Cancer Research Program, 2800 Plymouth Road, Bldg. 100, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48709-2800.
Growing up in war torn Greece, it was always George's dream to come to this land to get a better job and create a better life for himself. When he became a U.S. Citizen it was the greatest day of his life. He attributed his sucess to all his hardworking employees. During his time at Cavis Grill he served many customers whom he considered family.
