DANSVILLE (STEUBEN COUNTY) - George H. Acomb, 80, of State Route 36 in Dansville passed away Friday morning May 14, 2004, at home following an extended illness.


George was born in the Town of Dansville on Feb. 22, 1924, a son of the late Robert L. and Bessie Hartman Acomb. On Feb. 22, 1949, he married Margaret E. Quait. Peg predeceased George on Jan. 14, 1979. He was also predeceased by his sister Margaret Brew and brothers Lewis, Andy, Robert, and Scott Acomb.




George was a member of the Dansville High School Class of 1941. He was actively involved in farming on his dairy farm, 'Acomb Acres,' with his three sons for the past 50 years.

George was a member of the Steuben County Farm Bureau, a former director of the Konhokton Milk Co-op for 18 years, a member of the Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE), and a longtime award-winning Funk's Seed Corn salesman. He was also a trustee of the Greenlawn Cemetery Association.





In his free time, he enjoyed hunting trips to Montana, Colorado, Alaska, and New Brunswick, where he took several trophy animals. His true love and dedication was to his family and the farm.




George is survived by his daughter Susan (Douglas) Schwingel of Atlanta; three sons: Rodney Acomb and Robert Acomb, with whom he resided on the farm in Dansville, and William (Julee) Acomb, also of Dansville; six grandchildren: Johanna and Hollee Schwingel, Amanda, Bryan, and Patrick Acomb, and Nina Edgerton; three sisters, Ruth Wilson of Georgia, Bessie Merrill of Pennsylvania, and Helen (Earl) Veley of Dalton; three sisters-in-law: Ruth Magee of Groveland, Lucille Acomb of Batavia, and Dorothy Acomb of Dansville; and several nieces and nephews.
