A hand written "family record", source unknown, lists this son of James and Eliza. When I visited the graves of James & Eliza a few years ago, there were two small, square cement blocks at the foot of the family plot, one with the initials "JH". I believe this was a memorial to a young son lost (probably) before the family left Iowa in 1852. When I returned to the cemetery in 2011 to take a picture of the cement block, it was gone.
------
Shortly after I posted the above statement, a kindly gentleman who lives in the Medford area, went to the cemetery, found my "lost" cement blocks and took pictures for me. The long cement block appears to refer to Eliza Hamlin. I wonder if the one labeled "M.M." could refer to the infant daughter that died on the Oregon trail ......... ??
