DONALDS - A Donalds woman, Mrs. Ellen Wakefield Leslie Martin. 67, was struck by car crossing the road in front of her home during downpour of rain Sunday and died an hour and a half later at Memorial Hospital at Greenwood. State Highway Patrolman Jack N Mitchell said Mrs. Martin had been visiting a neighbor across the road, Highway 178, almost in the heart of Donalds, and was returning home when the accident occurred. Mitchell said she was holding a protective cover over her head against the rain and apparently ran into path of a car ... She was a native of York County, a daughter of the late D.F. and Ida Ellis Leslie and had been a resident of Donalds for the last 47 years. She was member of Donalds Baptist Church and was the wife of the late Hugh Jasper Martin. Survivors include one son H.J. Martin the home. Two Daughters, Mrs. George Dorn of Greenwood, Mrs. Herschel Graves of Pageland; two brothers L. E. Leslie of Due West and S. A. Leslie Of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Mrs. [Miss] Lucille Leslie of Donalds and Whitmire; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Baptist Church with the Rev. Ralph Hall and the Rev. James Bowers officiating. Burial will be in the Donalds Cemetery. Pallbearers: J R Dunn, L.E. Leslie Jr., David Leslie, and A. Y. Leslie. Honorary escort will be composed of deacons of Donalds Baptist Church and Paul Johnson, Frank Murff. Albert Seawright, Clyde Kennedy, Clyde Murff, Ben Pearman, Wilfred Martin, Johnny Martin, T. S Lattimore, Rice Henry, Charles Seawright, John Uldrick, the Rev T. L. Hooper, H.O. Mullinax, Dr. R. S. Clark Jr., P. M. Davis, James Gassoway and Roy Martin. The body will be at Pruitt Funeral Home and will placed in the church an hour before services. The family will be at the home on Main Street in Donalds.
