Joe Rhyne Abernethy, 88, of 112 Ridge St., Lincolnton, died Thursday, April 20, 2006. His funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2006, at Warlick Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Dale Pederson and Jerry Lail officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Warlick Funeral Home. Mr. Abernethy was born Sept. 15, 1917, in Lincoln County to the late Robert E. Abernethy and Hattie Rhyne Abernethy. He was the owner of Abernethy Construction. Survivors include his wife, Gay Greer Abernethy of the home; a son, Donald R. Abernethy and wife, Diana, of Lincolnton; a daughter, Nancy Truitt and husband, Jabe, of Lincolnton; a stepson, Vance Greer and wife, Iris, of Mountain City, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert E. Abernethy II (Leila) of Lincolnton; a grandson, Joel Scott Truitt of Lincolnton; and two stepgrandchildren, Kristine Leatherman and Jacob Leatherman, both of Lincolnton. Memorials may be made to Cedar Grove Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 261 Cedar Grove Church Road, Vale, N.C. 28168; Hope Baptist Church, 571 Salem Church Road, Lincolnton, N.C. 28092; or the Lincoln County Shrine Club, Building Fund, P.O.
