GEORGE D. REEVES

ORAN - George Dewey Reeves, 75, died at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.

He was born Aug. 3, 1899 at Oran to the late Mr. and Mrs. George Reeves. In 1923 [sic 1925] he married Jewel Black of Morely, who died March 13, 1951. On May 17, 1972 he married Mrs. Suda Fowler of Oran who survives.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oran and retired from farming in 1956. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Harry Ellis of Claymont, Del., and Mrs. Carl Lite of Covington, La.; four stepsons, six stepdaughters, a half-brother, Ray Evans of Chafee; two half-sisters six grandchildren, 29 step-grandchildren and eight great step-grandchildren.

Services were conducted at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Oran with the Rev. R.L. Fox officiating. Burial was in New Morely Cemetery at Morely.
............

Notes:

The gravestone obviously had an error on the death year, as the obituary was not published until Dec 27, 1974. Death year should be 1974 (not 1973). Also, the marriage date to Miss Jewel Black was actually August 20, 1925 in Morely, Scott County, Missouri (according to Missouri marriage record).

George 1st married Miss Jewel Black on August 20, 1925 in Morely, Missouri.

Married 2nd, Mrs. Suda (DeMasters) Fowler, widow of Hugh Fowler, on May 17, 1972 in Missouri. No children by this union. Suda had at least 14 children with Hugh Fowler, two of which died very young.
