Richard Marlette/Marlett was the son of Peter Marlett and Mercy Dunn and the brother of my GGG Grandfather Abraham Marlett. He was born November 3, 1808 in Monmouth County NJ.

Richard's 1st wife Eliza (Maiden Name Unknown) was born About 1805 VT and died March 30, 1841 NY and was buried April 3, 1842 in the MARLETT Family Plot, Oakwood Cemetery, Penfield NY in Lot 408C purchased by Peter Marlett (per the Cemetery Records- refer to FAG Memorial 70338848 Mrs. Richard MARLETT).

It is possible that she was later re-interred to the Webster Rural Cemetery (FAG 70340800), Section A Row 12, to be buried with her husband Richard and sons Mareau B and Reuben A, where there exists a MARLETTE Family Pillar with all 4 names inscribed as well as 4 individual stones, 2 on each side of the Family Pillar.

HOWEVER, email from Cynthia Stanley (ID 47531290) on 2/5/2012 notes "A somewhat common occurrence, in those times, was that a former loved one who had died and was buried elsewhere, was later memorialized on the family monument, though not actually buried at that same cemetery. This is probably more likely than her having been re-interred near her husband, Richard." NOTE that we have not found any documented records to verify a re-interrment so we agree that it is more probable that the Webster Rural Cemetery "burial" is actually a "memorial".

After the death of his 1st wife in 1841and before the 1850 Census, Richard then married Eliza L Corning, daughter of Dr. Noah Corning and Clarissa Morton. This 2nd Wife Eliza was born August 13, 1805 VT and died May 9, 1875 and is buried in the CORNING Family Plot, Range 1 (1-100) Section 3-1 South Grove, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Rochester with her parents and 8 other members of the CORNING Family.

Richard and his 1st wife Eliza had 4 known children, Sarah E (never married), Mareau B., James B, and Reuben A. Richard and his 2nd wife Eliza Corning had no known issue.

The family's census and death records are located under the various names of Marlett, Marlette, and Marlet. Gravestones located in the Rural Webster Cemetery are all engraved as MARLETTE...gravestones in the Oakwood Cemetery are all engraved MARLETT.

THEREFORE...to hopefully avoid future confusion, there are 2 wives of Richard named Eliza and 3 FAG Memorials as follows:

Wife 1 FAG 70338848 (Oakwood Cemetery) under Mrs., Richard MARLETT (Eliza Unknown Surname) who died 3/30/1841, interred 4/3/1841 in the MARLETT Family Plot, Oakwood Cemetery Lot 408C Penfield NY.

Wife 1 FAG 70341458 (Webster Rural Cemetery) under Eliza Unknown MARLETTE who died 3/30/1841, and we are assuming her remains were removed from Oakwood Cemetery and re-interred in the MARLETTE Family Plot Section A Row 12 Webster Rural Cemetery or that the Webster Rural Cemetery is a memorial only.

Wife 2 FAG 76722982 Eliza L Corning MARLETT who died 5/9/1875 was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Rochester NY in the CORNING Family Plot with her parents and 8 other members of the CORNING Family.
