Missouri, to December, 1862. 2nd Brigade, 3rd Cavalry Division, District Eastern Arkansas, to January, 1863. 2nd Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Division, 13th Army Corps, Dept. Tennessee, to April 1863. 2nd Brigade, Cavalry Division, District of Eastern Arkansas, Dept. Tennessee, to May, 1863. District of the Southwest Missouri, Dept. Missouri, to October, 1864. 3rd Brigade, Cavalry Division, Dept. Missouri, to January, 1865. Became a zinc miner in Granby, Newton county, Missouri area where father with family followed him at end of the Civil War, (Granby's lead discovered around 1850, population by 1855, about 8,000, Union won Battle of Granby OCT 1862, town created 1875, mines petered out after World War Two). Next found in 1873 created Joplin area of Jasper county.

My father's namesake and uncle James Luke, had also migrated from the tin mines of Cornwall, England to the lead mines of Granby in 1874.

Census: 1880, age 37 Joplin, Jasper county, Missouri with 1st wife & five children, an engineer.

Reportedly 1st wife, Barbara Ann Winchester, died 3 JUN 1881 in Jasper county, Missouri leaving five children.

Census: 1900, age 56 Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri with 2nd wife and three children, a niece & two grandchildren at 418 McGregor street, a zinc mine operator.

Death: from complications of hardening of the liver and heart disease/arterio-sclerosis at the age of 68 yrs, 4 mos & 29 days.Dr. David Wise, MD was attending physician. Missouri Death Certificate, informant son J H Bailey. Funeral directions were in charge of Knell Undertaking Company of Carthage, Missouri.
