Services for Helen M. Eiden-Burckhard, age 95, of Melrose, Minnesota who died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose were celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Rev. Vincent Lieser officiated, with burial following in the parish cemetery.

Helen Mildred Eiden-Burckhard was born Oct. 17, 1904 in Donaldson to Owen and Katherine (Darcy) Mulvey. As a teenager, she taught school in North Dakota. She moved to Little Falls and worked there as a telephone operator. She was united in marriage to Albert Eiden on October 15, 1929 in Warren, Minnesota.

The couple lived in St. Peter and then in Holdingford from 1930 to 1938 when they moved to Sauk Centre. They moved to Melrose in 1939. Albert died in 1958 and Helen worked as a bookkeeper for Arvig Telephone Company in Melrose for over 20 years. She married Anton Burckhard on May 7, 1977 in St. Anthony, North Dakota. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose.

Helen Eiden is survived by nine children: Gene Eiden and Fran of Rochester, Donna Fink of Ely, Les Eiden and Arlene of Osseo, Darrell Eiden and Irene of Coon Rapids, Arliss Liebel and Robert of Grand Rapids, Neil Eiden and Janice of Braham, Merle John of Muncie, Ind., Thomas Eiden and Teresa of Bellingham, Wash., and Gerald Eiden and Irene of Roseville; 37 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Albert Eiden in 1958 and Anton Burckhard in 1990, son David, son-in-law, Victor Fink, four sisters, two brothers and grandson, Daniel Fink.

Casket bearers were Michelle Deutsch, Mary Bergley, Susan and Debbie Eiden, Paula Benson, Carol Stortz, Ruth Leoni and Anne Boeckman. Cross bearer was Kay Kangas.
