Janis Balliet, 81, a long time resident of Waxahachie, Texas, widow to the late Paul Balliet, passed away December 6, 2010 after a long illness, in her home with caregiver Linda Owen and nurse Sarah Horan.
Janis Balliet, also known as Janis Waeckerli, was born on August 6, 1929 in Slatington, PA, only daughter to the late parents Oscar Waeckerli and Mae Kuntz Waeckerli.
Janis was a graduate of Slatington High School, in Slatington, PA. She was married early in life to Paul Balliet, who was a union organizer, and resided in Northampton, PA for many years before moving to Texas. She worked in the fashion industry for a short while then focused her studies by attending school for the fine arts, using the medium oil painting for her landscape and seascape paintings. She collected antiques, eclectic Japanese art, maintained Japanese gardens, and during her travels she collected South American and Caribbean artifacts too. She also enjoyed attending the ballet, art and jazz festivals with her close family members and local neighbors. Later in life she was a caregiver to her father Oscar and Aunt Ivy until the passing of both. Janis was a member of Dallas Museum of Art and the Allentown Art Museum

She is survived by her Uncle Claude Kuntz of Walnutport, PA, Aunt Mildred and Nicholas Petrignani of Easton, PA, cousins: Chris Kuntz, Sr. of Slatington, PA, god-daughter Sheree Petrignani of Westchester, NY, Eric Petrignani of Kunkletown, PA, as well as grand-cousins. Her close friends were Eugene and Patsy McLamore and caregiver Linda Owen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Harold Balliet; her mother and father; and by her aunt, Ivy Waeckerli.
Services to celebrate her life are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2010 at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Lakeview Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
