Mrs. Mitchell, 89, died Tuesday, April 26, 2006, at her residence, after a long battle with cancer.

A native of Fayette County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Rev. William & Tobitha Bowling. She grew up in Monroe County, WV and married her beloved husband of 40 years, Oliver Sheldon Mitchell, in 1942. In 1952 they moved to Aiken, SC where she worked for DuPont, Woodruff Drug, Edwards, and Stepping Stones during residency of her 59 years.

She has been an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in New Ellenton since 1953 and found great joy serving the people of her church. Laura loved and cared for her family and friends with unsurpassed dedication during times of sickness as well as health. She was a devoted, mother, sister, aunt, Nana, great- grandmother, and friend. She was a fun loving soul and a master storyteller. Her greatest joys were being with her family, cooking, taking care of children, caring for the sick or elderly and traveling. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughter, Toby M. (David) James, Aiken, SC, sister, Jo Gravely, sister-in-law, Emma Mitchell Shuller, grandchildren, Shelly Laura James, Patricia Perkins Bihl, Holly Perkins O'Donnell, Olin Mitchell Perkins, and Douglas Perkins, seven great-grand children, 12 nephews, 12 nieces, and 20 great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, their daughter Scherry Mitchell Perkins, three brothers, five sisters and a nephew.
