On last Saturday evening, Postmaster John F. Leiton, of Clinton, died of congestion of the stomach and bowels, after an illness of about 10 days, aged 45 years. The writer has known Mr. Leiton since a boy, and when he says he was an honest and upright citizen, he means just what he says. There were no better hearted men than the deceased. When the war broke out, he enlisted in the service and fought gallantly for the old stars and stripes. He had been Postmaster of Clinton since 1877. He leaves a wife and 2 or 3 children, and a host of friends to mourn his death. His funeral took place on last Sunday evening. He held a $4,000 policy.
